Acceptable Use Policy

What the service is for

Recording and analysing works you read, and planning, drafting and revising work you write. Notes, quotations, research material and your own manuscripts are all squarely within that purpose.

What is not allowed

• Material you have no legal right to store, including pirated books, papers or full-text copies of works you do not own or licence.
• Content that sexually exploits or endangers a child, in any form.
• Content that incites violence, or that targets people with harassment or hatred based on who they are.
• Malware, credential-stealing files, or anything intended to compromise a device or account.
• Other people's private or personal data collected without a lawful basis.
• Automated scraping, load testing, or attempts to bypass plan limits, authentication or per-account access rules.
• Reselling, sublicensing or reverse engineering the service.

Uploads

Attachments are stored privately and are readable only by your account. Each file is checked against a per-plan size limit and an allowed-type list before it is accepted. Upload supporting material — your own notes, images, permitted excerpts, your own drafts — not full copies of books or paywalled articles. See the Copyright & Quotation Policy for the detail.

Fair use of resources

Plan limits are enforced in the database, not only in the interface, so they apply the same way to every client. Free accounts are limited to 15 active works and 3 active writing projects; archiving or completing an item frees capacity without losing anything. Do not try to work around these limits programmatically.

Reports and enforcement

Report a violation through the help page. Because accounts are private, we act on reports and lawful requests rather than by inspecting content routinely. Depending on severity we may ask you to remove material, remove it ourselves, suspend the account, or close it. Except for serious or repeated abuse we will tell you first and give you a chance to export your work.
